Paper Ghosts
Paper Ghosts explores the perceived value of paper as a short-lived material that has no value once it has been classified as waste. Crumpled paper shapes are shown encased in vacuum formed plastic, plaster moulds and finally in porcelain and bone china showing how it receives new appearances in different materials.
Project Description
To create particularly clean plaster moulds, the entire vacuum-formed plastic piece is used as the basis for a one-piece slip-casting mould. Plaster moulds are created for all of the shapes, relating back to the original paper from which the moulds are taken. Slip casting is chosen as a method because it is similar to recycling and paper making, creating a connection between the materials and processes.
